Beth Jeans Houghton emerged on the young folk scene in 2009 with some striking
wigs and tunes to match, but the 22-year-old Geordie’s first album of
idiosyncratic banjo pop has been worth the wait. Lyrics concerned with both
majesty and minutiae are backed by feverishly entwining guitar, keyboard,
percussion and strings. But it is Houghton’s silken vocal that really sets
it apart.
