Thanks to the likes of Adele and Lana Del Rey, this year looks set to be a plethora of mournful and retrospective hit tunes.
Which seems fitting, we guess, seeing as 2012 is predicted to be the year of the end of the world.
And a new star has entered the arena; Beth Jeans Houghton And The Hooves Of Destiny have been around for a little while but now, with the likes of NME, Grazia, Cosmopolitan picking up on them, it seems as if 2012 could be their year.
Her new album,'Yours Truly, Cellophane Noise' has been widely praised by critics as being "spellbinding", "enchanting" and as having an "intimate, unusual charm that's all it's own..."
And NME have recommended that everyone listen to the album at least twice:
"It’s reflective of the album as a whole, in which every other second demands a double take."
Grazia have pegged the band to be the rising stars of 2012, complimenting them on their unusual quirky stylings and innovative dress sense. Cosmopolitan have followed suit, comparing the band to the likes of Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey.
So what does all this mean for us?
It means that, without a doubt, we're going to be hearing a lot more from this experiemental anti-folk band in the near future. So it's probably worth brushing up on your knowledge now, so you look like you've got your finger on the pulse later!
